Watch: HiFi With Nnamdi
presented by
Perhaps our favorite aspect - not part, necessarily, but aspect - of this episode of our Hi Fi series is the Klanbusters shirt beneath Nnamdi’s hoodie.
Straight away, that’s a sign that we chose the right talent for this, our decade-old video series that takes artists we love, puts cash in their hand, and asks them to answer questions through albums in a record store. Questions like, ‘what was the last album someone recommended to you?’ and ‘what’s an album you’ve never heard but would really like to?’ and the not-so-question demand, ‘show us an album dedicated to your thirteen-year-old self',’. For this iteration, we could think of no better city than Chicago, no better record store in Chicago than Beverly Phono Mart, and no better artist to shop in Chicago at Beverly Phono Mart than Nnamdi, a multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer-songwriter, and Chicago staple.
In addition to being a representative of the sort of talent and humor that we at Monster Children most adore, Nnamdi is also the founder of Sooper Records, through which he has promoted and supported the Chicago scene, and revealed to us artists from that scene whom we have since fallen in love with, like This Is Lorelei, and Pile. How better to repay such good work than to go on a record shopping spree courtesy of Marshall? Enjoy.
