Nicole McLaughlin Launch Event at Vans DTLA
Brief
Vault by Vans Vans collaborated with designery and multidisciplinary artist Nicole McLaughlin on a functional gardening shoe inspired product. Vault by Vans engaged Monster Children to design, build, and operate their Vans Vault x Nicole McLaughlin launch event at the Vans DTLA store.
The Work
Working closely with the artist and designer, we thoughtfully produced an event that reflected Nicole’s core values, repurposing fabric from the collection, sourcing and hiring vendors with likeminded principles, and turning the Vans DTLA store into a “Farmer’s Market” complete with custom chainstitching from Large Lemonade, bagels from Courage Bagels, plant adoptions from local plant experts Latinx With Plants, a custom fabric plant wall by Noah Collins, and coffee from Amigo Roasters. Along with the overall production design, vendor booths were custom fabricated and all designed in house. MC also handled guest lists, invites, flyer assets, and more.
Results
550 attendees. All available inventory at the Vans DTLA location sold out within the day. A huge success in re-imaging the Vans DTLA retail space as Nicole’s own upcycling workshop cross farmers market.
