What To Buy Your Arty Pals This Christmas

Art

We have officially hit December which means Christmas is right around the corner (again!).

Unbelievable shit, it’s almost like this happens every year. Yet I bet you are still procrastinating buying presents like us. Am I right? Apparently it’s our job here at Monster Children to keep up to date with what is cool and what isn’t especially in the vicinity of surf, skate, music and art and so for this list we have curated an inventory of gifts for your arty pal. The one that drags you to gallery openings and spends their savings on paintings. We like the arty pals. They’re our favourite and this is what we would be gifting them this Christmas.

LAUNDRY GALLERY x AGARIC FLY INCENSE

If your arty pal is anything like me and need their creative zone to be perfect before they start then let me recommend this incense by Laundry Gallery to ensure all the senses get involved. A unique blend of cedar, meadow and oakmoss inspired by the wet season in our beautiful territory. Yes please.

JEDDA CLAY MUG

Get your loved one a vessel for their psychotic coffee intake by none other than Jedda Clay. Handmade in Byron in a range of funky colours, these things are guaranteed to be a hit with any arty pal.

GRAND VOYAGER LEATHER JOURNAL

Help your creative mate get their ideas outta their head and into this leather bound journal. The beauty with this little number is that over time with all its use, the leather will start to develop a wonderful patina, which as anyone knows is what makes art so special in the first place.

LE CREUSET STONEWARE FRENCH PRESS

Nothing helps an artist more than a damn good cup of coffee so why not help them in style with this French press from Le Creuset. Made from double enamel and stainless steel so you know this will last for years to come. Pretty enough to be kitchen decor without even trying to be a coffee machine.

UNYOKED STAY

If your creative mate is feeling a bit burnt out an unyoked stay might be in order. I was lucky enough to book a couple of nights at an unyoked cabin earlier this year and let me tell you it bloody works. Not only did I finally feel zen but the time away without reception was perfect to reinspire dormant ideas. 10/10 would recommend for anyone.

STACK MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION

Keep your arty pal inspired by joining them to the coolest club on the planet. Every month, your loved one will be sent a different, surprise, independent magazine from around the world. Stack has some of the coolest publishers in their rotation so I can assure you your arty nerd is in good hands.

THE CREATIVE ACT: A WAY OF BEING - RICK RUBIN

If there is anyone who knows how to get the best out of creative people it is Rick Rubin. As one of the world’s most renowned music producers, this book guides you through processes that help to get the best out of anyone who reads it. A must have for anyone creative or just anyone trying to think a little differently.

A PIECE OF ART, DUH

We can’t really help you pick a piece of art but we can show you some artists we adore. Here’s our pick from the Sydney Contemporary this year, some artists you should know, or a list of our favourite independent galleries that should be able to help you out. Go wild.
