Coming Soon: Monster Children x Nike Presents 'Opposite of Rust' Featuring Shal

Art

Shaun Daniel Allen, known as Shal, is a proud Yugambeh born /Bundjalung man, multidisciplinary artist, dear friend of Monster Children and the latest feature of a special motion project with Nike - Opposite of Rust.

Kicking off with an exclusive exhibition tonight at Machine Hall, the project features multiple layers of Shal’s artistic practises, from his large scale textile artwork to his music and the collaborations that amplify his life as a creative. Collaborations are central to this project, with Shal creating a large-scale textile artwork that serves as a conceptual and sensory exploration of the elements inherent to Nike’s well loved Air Max Dn8. The Dn8s are designed to provide an unmatched experience of movement, much like Shal’s artistic work which explores movement, perception and materiality as it relates to his environment, particularly the water.

Furthering on the collaborative nature of the project Opposite of Rust also integrates Shal’s incredible music side and influences. While his artworks invoke a sense of calm, the contrast of Shal’s music side with his underground band Nerve Damage further highlights the dynamic nature of Shal, letting there be calm in the chaos. Opposite of Rust will feature a music collaboration with Nerve Damage and Jono Ma, as well as an integration of a soundscape composed with musician BuzzKull, tying to a video projection in collaboration with Riley Blakeway to create an incredible multidimensional installation that pushes the boundaries of traditional art.

Stay tuned for a special Monster Children x Nike motion project featuring Shal - coming soon.
