You Missed It: Maclay Heriot’s Exhibition

Maclay Heriot is an absolute bastard.

Six words you will never hear uttered in your life. ‘That motherfucker Maclay Heriot’ is something else you’ll never hear as long as you live. The only disparaging thing one could say about Maclay Heriot is he’s too likeable, which is true. Maclay is supernaturally likeable. And, of course, the best photographers are the likeable ones because they get the best out of their subjects. Better than that, though, they appear in all their photos. That’s not to say they turn the cameras on themselves—rather, you can feel their presence in the room and see them in the faces of the people they shoot. He might try to hide behind his brassed-in Leica M6, but Maclay is present, and he shoots them all. In the last twelve months, he’s been on tour with Portugal. The Man (who he also provided with album art), was the Lead National Laneway Tour photographer, shot NME covers with King Stingray and Camp Cope, and he’s about to head out with Janes Addiction, and then on to the US and UK for a two-month tour with Babe Rainbow, The Chats and King Gizz. Not bad. Nice guy. Perfectly imperfect in every way.

Check out his website here if you’re in need of someone to make you look prettier than you are, and some selects of the Portugal. The Man exhibition we hosted downstairs a couple weeks ago. You missed it!
