Why Do Some People Get Double The Talent?
At first glance, it’d be pretty easy to be spiteful of someone like Sarah Meurle, with her pro skate career and equally impressive photography.
But it gets worse - she’s also as humble and lovely as they come, so you can’t even hate her for it. It’s all really quite despicable. Pack Heavy, Chase Light is a series by DB following surfers, snowboarders, artists, connectors, entrepreneurs, business builders, photographers and storytellers - just the sort of folks we align ourselves with - and naturally, a sweetheart polymath like Sarah is the subject of this latest episode (above).
Sarah is one of Db’s first ever Skate ambassadors, and rightfully so. She kind of rips. Well, not kind of; she rips. Plain and simple. Like her photography, her skating is a meld of substance and style, with as much emphasis on the maneuver as how it is done, which, though a staple in the mindset of skate culture, is a bit of a rarity in practice (ie the insane amount of people who can 5-0 a 20 stair rail but look gross doing it).
As one might expect, Sarah’s skateboarding photography is top notch. It takes someone who skates to understand the right angles and moments necessary. What’s interesting is the fine art component of her photographic work. She enjoys playing in the abstract and the elusive, and thusly, they speak volumes. What’s that saying? A picture is worth a thousand words? Sarah’s are worth more, I reckon.
If you take photos on anything other than a phone, you know how important a good bag is. The quality of the vessel in which your passion transports itself with you is absolutely crucial, and Db Journey is a mighty good vessel. Good enough for Sarah, which is plenty good for us, and more than good for you.
