What’s on At SXSW Sydney

With SXSW Sydney kicking off in just under a week, we trawled their (confusing) website so you didn’t have too.

We did a piece on our picks of the music lineup that you can read here, but there’s also a lot more going on at SXSW that is well worth your time checking out. Here’s some of the films and conferences we’ll be going to. See you in there!

FILM

Didi | 弟弟

We got a preview of Didi a couple of weeks ago ahead of our interview with director Sean Wang (which you can read here) and immediately called it the film of summer. It’s one of the best coming-of-age flicks we’ve seen in a damn while and we will certainly be watching it again. Playing Saturday, October 19th from 6:30PM at Dendy Newtown.

Pavements

A rule breaking tongue in cheek doco based on one of our favourite bands Pavement by Alex Ross Perry. Showing at ICC Sydney on Thursday, October 17th from 7PM.

Saturday Night

Watch the story of the young eccentric cast and crew, and the behind-the-scenes chaos that ensued inside the famed Studio 8H, as the minutes ticked down leading up to the first utterance of the immortal words, ‘Live From New York, it’s Saturday Night!’ Showing at the RITZ Randwick on Saturday, October 19th from 6:30PM

The Endless Summer: 60th Anniversary Remastered

Bruce Brown's The Endless Summer is one of the first and most influential surf movies of all time. Remastered for the big screen documenting surfers Mike Hynson and Robert August as they travel the world in search of waves and warm weather. Playing at Tumbalong Park on Saturday, October 19th at 5:30PM.

CONFERENCE

Underground Filmmaking

If you’re an aspiring filmmaker, this one is for you. Featuring a panel of independent filmmakers who talk through ways to push boundaries and narratives in creative, low budget approaches. Be at Palace Central Cinemas on Tuesday, October 15th from 3:15PM.

Love Letters to Screen

Four industry insiders share their stories about the films that ignited their lifelong passion for the magic of cinema, with tips on how to define our own artistic paths. Showing at Palace Central Cinema on Friday, October 18th at 1PM.

Future Council Live with Damon Gameau

Climate change requires out of the box solutions so who better to ask than the no filter kids? Listen to a panel of children forming a ‘Future Council’ to advise and influence the world's most powerful companies on their decisions that impact nature with Damon Gameau. Coming to you from Tumbalong Park on Saturday, October 19th at 2:45PM.

Get your tickets to SXSW here. Kicks off from October 14th until the 20th.
