My dear friend Robin Pailler sent me this video he made a couple of weeks ago and I was in absolute awe.
A surf video with some of the leading ladies in the surf industry? Sign me up. So much so that forget to post it. Featuring Lola Mignot, Karina Rozunko, Juliette Lacome, Margaux Arramon-tucoo and Hanna Scott by Vans Surf. What an error on my behalf. I’m putting it up now because it’s beautiful obviously but also because I owe Robin a long list of things. Here they are.
For kindly introducing me to the Aussie surfers on the North Shore and understandably not realising that despite the sheer size of our dear country we all actually fucking know each other. ‘Sam this is Craig Anderson.’ ‘Yeap, yeah we walked around a carpark for an hour last weekend trying to find the house where the after party was but hey Greg.’
In Hawai’i - for covering my ass when I didn’t show up to certain mandatory brand events because I got back from a party twenty minutes prior and it was 6am.
For buying me a smoothie on the said day because undoubtedly I looked like death but we had to meet the owner of the fucking company that was sending us out there.
This one is a bit personal but for giving me a pep talk about how down in the dumps I was about a certain boy. Being told you’re a real one is sometimes all you need to hear.
For inspiring me. For real. You have made a life of travelling around the world, being a legend and making incredible stuff with cool people. It takes someone special to make people feel comfortable with a camera pointed at them but you do it. Even beautiful surf films despite the fact I know you cannot surf. That’s skill.
And for that $50 that I owe you. Next trip to Hawai’i is my shout. I hope we get invited back @VANS.
