Vivian Kim: Island Time
Photographer Vivian Kim has a new and very beautiful book out called Island Time.
Born out of a desire to create something meaningful on Kaua’i, Island Time goes beyond the traditional landscapes and surf portraits, to explores the in between stories and interesting characters that make the Island unique. ‘It was important for me to honor these people, traditions, and crafts,’ says Kim, ‘which is why I chose to print and bind this book at the highest quality I could. I wanted these stories to be able to sit with the top art books in the world.’
Kim partnered with local ‘Ohanalei Gallery in Hanalei to create Island Time, which is made up of over 230 photos of ‘faces young and old, families, friends, red dirt, surfing, fishing, cooking, camping, hiking, hunting, hanging in trucks, watching the sunset, and more.’
Key figures include: Jeff Hakman (Mr. Sunset), Terry Chung, Danny Fuller, Billy Hamilton, Kinimaka sisters, Dustin Barca, Tamba, and more, and all net proceeds go to local Kaua’i organizations and non profits. The first edition of 250 are printed full color on 80# classic crest solar white eggshell paper, and the book cover is wrapped with brillianta cloth and foil stamped with photo tip-on. 9.5 x 12.5 inches, 176 pages, printed in the USA.
