At Home With Andrew Allen In The Monster Children X Vans Shoe

Ah, skateboarding.

When we think of skateboarding, we think of our favorite skate videos. When we think of our favorite skate videos, we think of Boys of Summer. When we think of Boys of Summer, we think of the Boys of Summer Leftovers, and when we think of the Boys of Summer Leftovers, we think of Andrew Allen, one of our all time favorite skaters, doing crooked grind fakies in the dark to a song by Men Without Hats that we didn’t think anyone else knew.

These thoughts floating around in our heads, we thought we’d pop over to Andrew’s place and see what he was up to. Turns out, not much.

An incomplete list of our favorite things in Andrew Allen’s house:

  • The vintage Vox amp.

  • An extensive Kurt Vonnegut collection.

  • A very large and very scary but very sweet dog.

  • The Monster Children x Vans Skate Slip On and Authentic Mid.

  • A plush bat.

  • Decorative mugs (we presume).

  • More Roman busts than you think.

Another little-known Andrew Allen fact: he is an Ennio Morricone head. You don’t meet a lot of those, it’s a bit of an obscure thing to back. I mean, Ennio’s musical contributions are so large that they can’t even be contained to the world of music so much as they are contributions to the social and cultural zeitgeist, but you won’t hear many people pay attention to Ennio enough to say that out loud. Andrew backs Ennio, and we back Andrew, therefore we back Ennio.

I’ve had the philosophy for years that if you have a mini at your house, you’d better fucking rip. This philosophy is more for rich little kids at the skatepark who snake me to practice rock fakies, but it is generally applicable. Andrew does, in fact, rip.

And with a look like that, how could you not?

The key to a successful backyard: hydration.

Have you ever tried to pivot fakie at the edge of the ramp? It is terrifying.
