Monster Children’s Guide To Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House
Vivid LIVE is kicking off from May 26 until June 17, packed with a heavy lifting lineup that we are very excited to see at Australia’s most iconic venue.
While the Sydney Opera House is an experience in itself, the talent within the walls makes it all the more worthwhile and this year’s lineup is very, very impressive. The full program features over forty artists, including nineteen international artists and six Australian exclusives. Here’s the ones you’ll be seeing us at.
At the top of the list, our good friend Cat Power. A must see at this year’s Vivid, although at the time of writing this she only had a few seats left to sell. Hopefully, you scored because you will not be disappointed. Her recreation of Bob Dylan’s legendary 1966 ‘Royal Albert Hall’ will be something else.
Thundercat is easily one of the best player’s in the game if not demonstrated by his long term collaborations with Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Childish Gambino, Steve Lacy, Janelle Monáe, Haim, Mac Miller, SZA, Travis Scott, Earl Sweatshirt, Silk Sonic, George Clinton and, Kendrick Lamar. This will be his first Australian show in a decade so if you’re a fan of funk, R&B, psychedelic jazz, get on board.
‘Raingurl’ is one of my favourite dance tracks and I HATE dancing. I’m one of those people who just stand there bobbing up and down while all my friends limbs are going everywhere trying desperately to get me to join them in their carefree willy nillies. There aren’t many things that get me moving, but ‘Raingurl’ by club pop, Korean-American artist, producer and DJ Yaeji does. Although I might not be front and centre, Yaeji is certainly an act I will be showing up for.
Gothic pop, need we say more? Plus whoever gets their face tattooed is always someone we’re going to back. She’s as unique as they come and someone we’ve been certainly keeping our tabs on of late, very excited to see what’s she’s all about live.
Sold out suckers.
Posh Isolation Presents Iceage (DK), Low Life, DX
Everyone knows we love some good old fashioned punk and this Posh Isolation curation of international and local punk is no different. Featuring Scandinavian punks Iceage, locals Low Life and the post punk supergroup DX featuring members of Total Control, Diät and Den, it’ll be a show for those who love getting sweaty and rubbing against other people’s sweat for the fun of it (yum).
After catching the attention of the country following their anti-colonialist hip-hop collaboration ‘Bagi-la-m Bargan,’ rapper Birdz and singer Leon musicians are making their double act Vivid debut with performances from their new recording Girra. Good art let’s us feel what others feel and these guys have a way of doing just that, touching on subjects within their lyrics that every Australian should be engaged by. Plus anyone that whips out a didgeridoo immediately scores in our eyes.
Aside from being a badass advocate for change within the music industry, Jaguar Jonze is art-pop powerhouse and multimedia artist. What can’t she do really? While I’m out here struggling to get the correct hand proportions on a stick figure drawing right, Jaguar Jonze merges music, film, art, and dance all into one layered performance to mesmerise you into forgetting how useless you are yourself.
