Disposable: Fazerdaze

Disposable is one of our oldest running series where we hand off a disposable camera to someone cool and ask them to shoot it. The idea being, ‘we know what your music or paintings or skating is like, but show us your perspective.’ A classic. Simple as that.

In this iteration, we present photos shot by Fazerdaze.

Fazerdaze is one of our favourite indie (whatever that means these days) artist from Aotearoa who recently completed an extensive tour of North America.

Fazerdaze’s music is sweetly bitter, hopeful and independent, unique but easily to hear. But then, why talk at you when you can just listen for yourself? As one might expect from the music itself, Amelia Murray, singer/songwriter/frontwoman/onlypermenantmember(?) of Fazerdaze is one of the sweetest people we know, and we’ll truly take any excuse to say hello, have a coffee, sing her praises, or as we often do with our favorite people, give her a disposable camera to mess around with, so at Kilby Block Party last last last week, we did exactly that.

My US band mates; Amanda Batung (bass) and Ben Barter (drums) - my first time playing with them and they crushed it! Here they are waiting for our flight from Atlanta back to LA. We had just played Shaky Knees Festival.

In LA, I stayed with my friends Maddie North (whose artist name is ‘So Below’) and Aaron Short (Space Above). Maddie happens to be a crazy talented makeup artist so here she is about to do my face ahead of a music video shoot.

Charles Glanders - our Front of House engineer and Tour Manager for Fazerdaze in the US. Charles takes care of everyone and everything. It all runs smoothly because of Charles!

That’s Aaron Short (Space Above) on the left. Aaron is one of my close friends and helps a tonne on the back end / tech side of Fazerdaze - both live and recorded. Here he is, with Amanda, working on something on the playback laptop!

Packing up gear just after we finished our set at Kilby Block Party. I’m stashing my guitar under the stage so I can go and see other bands! I’m heading to see Slow Pulp - I’d been listening to their record a lot on the plane. They were amazing live.

Changeover at festivals is usually pretty tight. I’m setting up my pedals while Charles quickly mics my guitar amp. He’ll be heading to the sound tent just after this!

Van pic! All of us and our gear! We love the van but we’re probably about to return it and catch a flight somewhere!

Making a little something in LA on my days off with my friends Lanning Sally and Luthersson.

FYI, playing in a band is mostly just loading and unloading gear.

This was a really fun tour! Thanks for being at these shows. I’ll see you again real soon :~)
