Ah the Gold Coast.

Known lovingly for its insane waves, weather, coffee, tattooed hotties and acai bowls but not so much for its brimming artistic culture. I can say this because I’m from the Goldy, and was one of the many locals who had to trade surfing without a wetsuit all year and the surf clubs (this is a Gold Coast thing I’ll have you believe) for the opportunities and exposure that only the big smokes can offer. This artistic void is exactly where the idea for Threshold Projects was born. The people of the Gold Coast are not without talent. Quite the opposite actually, but the absence of spaces for artists to exhibit their work are few and far between, or turned into beige clones void of any personality in order to make some rich white guy even richer (RIP Shark Bar). Artists James Neumann and Connor Bugelli want to change the way the Gold Coast thinks of art by building a community, opening up a dialogue and showcasing the work of local artists together with interstate and international artists at a temporary gallery working out of Time & Space in West Burleigh.

The first exhibition Thee Process opens this Friday 6th of October and features artists Connor Bugelli, Lex Williams, Marli Maddison, Lucia Canuto, James Neumann and Zachariah Riley. Instead of telling you about it we encourage you to show up in support and find out for yourself. I have a feeling this is exactly what the Gold Coast needs after all.
