Ah the old road trip.

Markers of youth, living on a whim and realising that you really don’t need as much as you think - just some good beers, good gear and good friends. That’s what we thought when we watched 50w Baja by Brixton featuring our good friend Chippa Wilson. Watching this reminds of of when I was twenty and I went on a two-week surf trip with my sister driving from the Gold Coast to Bawley Point. We slept in swags and cooked dinners on little gas stoves, freaked out driving across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, found a song that we’d replay more than was necessary. On the last night we ended up at house party in Byron where we climbed up on the roof of a house to watch the sunset because that’s what you do when you’re young. I remember sending a picture to my dad and him replying saying ‘keep jumping up on roofs. One day you’ll forget that is a damn nice place for a beer.’ That night I met a man who would become the love of my life for many years. When I look back I wonder if I met him because I was in that delirious, take-on-the-world kind of happy state that only comes from a road trip. Everything was good and nothing mattered. I think about that trip and often about him. Maybe it’s time to go to Baja.

50W (fifty weight) is a type of motor oil used by motorbikes and a long-standing series that Brixton have brought to life over the years. Inspired by outlaws and going against the grain, Brixton embody going off the beaten track in both their ethos and style. With a simple mission to get to Cuatros Casas, 50w Baja documents 14 old choppers and a ’64 Ford F100 loaded with boards, tools, parts, and camera gear all heading south. Add in a bit of surfing and a bit of skating and you’ve got quite the trip. Heading down to Baja can be the best trip of your life or the worst, all you gotta remember is not to look for trouble. Or do. It might be a good story.
