12 From Ya Phone: Mike Gigliotti

Portrait: Ryan Allan

Welcome to 12 From Ya Phone, the bit in Monster Children where we text someone and say, ‘Hey, send us 12 recent snaps from your phone and tell us about ‘em.’

Then what happens is they say, ‘What for?’ And we say, ‘For 12 From Ya Phone,’ and they say, ‘What’s that?’ and then we refer them to that opening sentence. For our latest issue’s 12 From Ya Phone, we hit up one of our best mates: Mike from Lotties Skate Shop in LA. Mike has an interview in Jonah’s guest editor issue of Monster Children. It’s up the back of the mag somewhere. First look at this, though, then go score the mag and read his interview. Or not. It doesn’t really matter. Nothing does. You’re just the universe becoming sentient and experiencing itself, so who cares?

First movie back since covid. We saw some shitty Liam Neeson movie; it was awesome.

Jerry Hsu, pro skateboard man. Heck of a nice guy.

Shop locs. I have to pull teeth to get these photos and half the time they don’t want to show their faces. I tell them they will regret it when they get older, but they don’t listen to me.

My friend Jeff setting up a board. Jeff is the guy who is good at everything he does and it pisses me off. Known him since we were 12 or 13.

Touch the bug zapper or get the fuck out.

Some shithole town in the middle of nowhere. Looks like a painting, doesn’t it?

My pal, Sammy. Towards the end of the work day, we usually split an ice cream.

Darren, Kevon and Andre. Three locals, none of them skate anymore, which sucks because they were all getting so good. I still see them in the neighbourhood, they come by and hang for a bit, they just all got into different shit. Oh well, can’t force ‘em.

Santino and Ginger, driving around in Santi’s old Checker. I feel cool when I am in that car. It’s been in his family for ages.

Me walking with the crew of shrimps. Skate or die.

This is Sammy goofing around in our Terminator mask. Sammy loves to scare the shit outta people, and I love watching him do it.

Baker 4 life.
