Stay Tuned For The Monster Children's SXSW Travel Diaries

Made easy by

The Belair Lip Bombs and dust are off to Austin, Texas in just under two weeks, en route to play the Monster Children SXSW Showcase.

For both bands, it will be their first time to Austin, Texas. You know when you go somewhere brand new and it’s all very stimulating, fun and shiny? Kind of like when you start a new job or a new bar opens up or when you first fall in love? Because they’ll be all bright eyed we decided they’d be the perfect people to take us on a little Texan tour. A rendezvous. A travel diary adventure so to speak, made easy by Up. Who the heck are these wildly talented humans who will be blindly leading us around Texas? Read on below to get acquainted.

The Belair Lip Bombs

The Belair Lip Bombs are made up of fine humans by the names of Maisie Everett, Mike Bradvica, Jimmy Droughton and Liam De Bruin. Hailing out of our dear country’s cultural melting pot, also known as Melbourne/ Naarm, the band plays music that is really, very good. Think bright-eyed vocals, and easy-listening rock riffs. Their debut record Lush Life, is a contemplation of songs about realising nobody ever has a perfect life where nothing bad ever happens, which in other words means relatable and isn’t that the point of music? The Belair Lip Bombs are eager to get over to Texas and absolutely rip in so you can expect some high energy tour diaries from these fine humans. Read our chat with Maisie here and get ready for some fun with this lot.

dust

dust have been described by many as a post-punk outfit where free jazz, angular riffs and voicemail samples are what you can expect when you hit play. Although, like a lot of punk bands, their intention isn’t so much to fit into the mould of a genre but rather explore how far they can experiment with sounds that reverberate nicely in our eardrums. Fittingly though, as a punk (ish) band, they come from Newcastle, which can be argued as one of the best emerging music communities in Australia. Dual guitarist and vocalists Gabriel Stove and Justin Teale, Liam Smith on the bass, saxophonist and guitarist Adam Ridgeway, and drummer Kye Cherry make up the band and not a single one of them has been to Texas. We spoke with Gabriel about Valium last week, so have a read of that here and stay tuned on @monsterchildren Instagram for the rolling travel updates.

The Belair Lip Bombs and dust are playing at the Monster Children SXSW Showcase on March 13th. Follow Monster Children's Instagram for more!
